Dead or Alive

Dead or Alive is a British New Wave band from Liverpool that rose to popularity during the 80s. This is a one hit wonder band with their song “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” (hear the original in Jukebox 1) and watch the remix video done in 1996. This band is popular in Japan, where they attained 18 number 1 hits in the Japanese chart. The Japanese loves them probably because of their unique but wired fashion. Well, the Japanese always prefer strange things. Even though this group lead vocalist Pete Burns, in a way desire to be a woman, his is also a good song writer, moreover he is the main focus of the band. Frankly, I can’t remember how the other band members’ looks like because they were often overlooked. Warning, this video could be a little scary if you cannot define the sex differences.Don't mistaken him for Cher. Well, anyway, the 80s was all about the gay-men’s revolution. Thanks to them, the 80s was so colourful.

Sophisticated Boom Boom is the debut album released by Dead or Alive in 1984. Containing mostly synth pop and disco elements, the record was a minor success in the UK, giving the band their first UK Top 40 single, a remake of KC & the Sunshine Band's "That's the Way (I Like It)". That song, with "Misty Circles", were hits on the U.S. Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

Youthquake is the second album released by Dead or Alive in 1985. This album was their commercial breakthrough in Europe and the United States, due to the single "You Spin Me Round", which was a UK number-one hit and a top 20 hit in the United States. Additional single releases included "Lover Come Back To Me", "In Too Deep" and "My Heart Goes Bang". This was Dead or Alive's first collaboration with the Stock Aitken Waterman production team.
